It all pretty much started when Apple first aired their iPod commercial back in 2005. Since then, music in commercials has become surprisingly...good. 2009 has been no exception. This year included some great commercials with some truly wonderful music.

Beggin' - Madcon [HBO Summer 2009 Promo]
I don't care if you don't like hip hop/rap, this song WILL make you move (it samples Frankie Valli's classic "Begging"). Go ahead...prove me wrong.
Matt & Kim - Daylight [Bicardi Mojito Eras]

This Brooklyn duo exploded on the indie scene after their song "Daylight" was featured in another awesome Bicardi commercial. I've never seen a bad Bicardi commercial in my life, so I just had to add one to this year's list.
Annie Little - Fly Me Away [Amazon Kindle]

Amazon had a contest to create a new commercial for the Amazon Kindle. Annie Little came up with this little number exclusively for the commercial. Since then she's gained somewhat of a cult following on the internet. It's not hard to see why. Oh, and did I mention that the MP3 is FREE to download on Amazon. Birthday Girl - Andrew Rodriguez [Clorox]
Companies love indie songs in their commercials, and it's no different with Clorox. Most of you will probably recognize this song immediately even if you can't remember what product it was trying to sell.

I'm so happy they don't play this commercial anymore. Every time it was on, I had this annoying little jingle stuck in my head for the rest of the day. I know someone out there feels my pain.

It really drives me crazy when some song is exclusively created for a commercial, but it never gets released (or completed). Such is the case with this song, "Say Hey". The only thing I could find was a MP3 ringtone provided by BP. The link is above.

Sounds like a song that got plucked right from an Apple ad. I guess that's exactly what Verizon wanted us to think. Either way, the song is catchy and quite uplifting.

This commercial got a lot of airtime across the United States. It promotes the Chrysler Town & Country by showing a bunch of girlfriends chilling at the beach (and car) listening to this song. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of this song, but a lot of people seem to like it.

An awesome (abeit quite strange) indie song from the Passion Pit. In contrast to other commercial songs, this song was an indie hit before it was used in the commercial. Check out the actual music video above, it's pretty cool.
