As of earlier today it seems that Watch-Movies-Links.net is not working for some people...which is weird. It's weird because it works for me and everyone else I asked to check it out.
The website currently lists 450 people online, which is much lower than normal levels that fluctuate around 3,000. So it's clear that a majority of their users are getting blocked or redirected to Twitter pages.
So the question remains...what is happening?
It would be great to know a couple of things from the people getting blocked.
If you can leave a comment with the following information;
1) Where are you located?
2) What ISP are you using?
I'm sure we'll figure this thing out...and get you back to watching movies =)

Yesterday, Watch-Movies.net went offline and hasn't been available since. I'm still trying to get an official response from the owners of the website, but I haven't heard anything directly from them yet.
Was it because it promoted illegal content? Is it a server upgrade? Nothing is known for sure right now...but there have been a couple rumors circulating around the internet. Some people say that it's merely a server upgrade...others say it's gone for good.
The website getting shutdown is certainly the worst case scenario, but it's also very likely. On December 23rd, 2008 watch-movies.net was sued by Paramount and Warner Bros. for copyright infringement. (See Paramount vs. Watch-movies.net). Although it operated for an entire month after the suit's filing...is it possible that the movie industry took it down? I'm not really that convinced because the US courts don't have the authority to shutdown the servers where watch-movies.net is hosted.
The explanation probably lies with the ISP censorship (Internet Service Providers). This new (and disturbing) tactic by the movie industry "blacklists" certain sites from being accessed from friendly ISP's. As of today, watch-movies.net is not available to access from almost all ISP's in North America and Western Europe (including Comcast, Time Warner/Roadrunner, Cox, and Sky). People have been able to connect from Asia and Russia, but I haven't heard anything from people in the rest of the world.
Since the movie industry wasn't able to successfully try a case against the streaming movie portals on the internet, they have been forced to block sites through this new innovative way. Even though I agree that Watch-Movies.net was not 100% legal...it's very scary that websites can just get censored without any legal approval.
The world of streaming media...is very new, and potentially very damaging to traditional distribution channels. That's why the movie industry is taking this aggressive approach...and even though I can't agree with this approach, I can't really blame them either. They've been backed into a corner (with the 100's of such websites) and they don't know what to do. In the internet age, when you can buy a $80 clone of these websites and have it up and running in less than a hour...it's going to be extremely hard for them to ever catch up.
Needless to say, I'm going to be watching this situation very carefully, and if I get any more information (hopefully directly from the owners) I will share it will all of you.
In the meantime, I guess we will have to hang on to our popcorn and wait this thing out.
Oh yeah...if you don't know already we've made this list of Top 25 Movie Websites to relive some of the pain of this website being down.

Watch-Movies.net is actually UP-N-RUNNING, however, certain ISP's in the US are now starting to block illegal web sites from showing their content. If you live outside of the US, then accessing the site works just fine -- but within the US, it's being blocked. I'm in Russia and can access the site just fine right now, but in the US, my brother cannot. This is not an internet issue either, because even from Russia, we have to access the same internet lines to access US sites. The only difference is that our IPs are Russian -- which is why we are allowed to access the site. I think one of the major US ISP companies (AT&T or SPRINT) blocked the site from US users. That's just my guess -- I could be wrong.
They are blocking it in Saskatchewan Canada as well I haven't been able to get to the site for a couple days now :(

If what you all are saying is true, and ISPs are beginning website censorship, I fear the worst. This could be the beginning of the end for the dream that was once the Internet.

I checked the domains whois and see that the registrar has placed the domain on hold. EXAMPLE: Domain Status: On-hold (generic).
Also i see that the dns server is pointed towards their registrar,normally happens when a domain is suspended or in renewal period: Name Server: DNS1.IDNZ.NET (has 3,269 domains) Name Server: DNS2.IDNZ.NET. Exception if they are using their domain registrars dns, when doing a dns report this does not seem so.
. This all happened on January 31st 2009. Around the time they went down? Now dns in some countries will show the site working and in others not. I imagine now everyone cannot see it. I checked the server ip for them, the server they are on works. Try placing their ip in the browser: http://84.22.127.42/
So in my opinion with the facts at hand, it looks like the registrar has suspended their domain name. I would try contacting them: http://www.idotz.net

Yes you will only get the apache message via the ip. That shows their server is not shut down. Looks like the domain did not get shutdown due to non renewal. I would say being a registrar myself that they have been suspended.
I normally see something like this, when a party disputes trademark infringement with icann regarding a domain. While a case is going on that domain is suspended and the owner cannot control it. You can do this for 1500.00 chump change for one of those larger companies. Of course i have no proof if this and it might not be the case. But the domain does say on hold!

If this is the case that our ISP are involved in censorship I only see two solutions. The people of America need to let the ISP and frankly our goverment know that censorship will never be tolerated and cancel our subscriptions with and ISP who choses to conduct itself in such a way. If we hit them in the pocket the will understand. Eventually someone will form a censorship free ISP to cash in. We lose more of our rights in this country daily. I will not ever stand for censorship. I think we are getting closer to revolution time everyday. Our goverment has let us down financialy and takes away our rights must be put in its place or else.

this is no good... well it was only a matter of time until this one went down too, dozens if not hundreds of movie sites have been shut down in a similar manner... maybe not banned as some are attempting at. But nevertheless, the more know of a site, the more at risk it becomes. a smart way to prevent this sort of thing, is to avoid speaking of movie sites of such chats as msn, yahoo,aol...etc... I beleive it's only a matter of time till someone finds away around this issue and our beloved site is back =) until then, lets keep ourselves sane and look for new movie sites =) who knows there may be better ones out there :) .
Not getting them here in the United Kingdom either. The internet is about freedom of content, and this is another way that people losing money will eventually take that freedom away, saying that "this is yet another one that goes, oh well" is giving the victory to them, and is us giving up another part of that freedom. we have to make a stand somewhere, or we will lose it all, i mean who wants martial law over the internet, i know i don't. but from some views, its seeds are already sewn.

I can confirm that it was the domain registrar who pulled it. Someone i know knows the owner and they confirmed that it was this.
So until they can get another registrar they will not be up.

not 100% shure yet! but i suspect someone with regulations found a way to block that auto fetcher engine.

I can't access it any longer either. I live in the U.S...internet provider is Comcast...how frickin lovely. It isn't like i'm downloading the damn things...I'm just watching the movies. If I could afford to go to the damn movie theaters I would go. It's too damn expensive. $12 to get in plus just for popcorn, soda and a candy bar...it all quickly adds up to over 30 bucks. I have Comcast also and when I went to watch-movies-links.net, it just pulled up cant find the server and a Comcast search. Really funning seeing as my Firefox is in no way linked to it. The reason people are un able to get on, is because isp, internet serve providers, like comcast att and verizon, have started to blobk these sites at request of the creators of movies and copy right owners.
Because they can't sue the owners of the web site that host the movies with out permission from the copy right owners, because there servers are not on us soil, they have gone after the isp, to have them blobk access to these sites.
And they agreed.
I havent seen any thign about it but i have heard from other 3rd party sources.
A easy way around this, is a program that can act as a proxy that is capable of gettign though the firewall, is ultrasurf.
The same program that people use to get though the fire wall that some countrys controll to limit access.

It's a good program and works well, though at times it can be slow.
