There are so many apps out there, it's getting kind of ridiculous. My iPhone now has 6 screens full of apps and I don't want to delete any of them since they all can serve a purpose in the future. Some are just for entertainment, while other's solve a very real problem in your day to day life. Since I'm sure a lot of other people are facing the same problems as I am, I've decided to make a list of the best apps that help city dwellers live life a little bit easier. From ordering food in New York to finding cheap parking in Chicago and everything in between. Below is the list of apps that we think every city dweller should download.
Best App to Find Cheap Parking - SpotHero
Find parking (let alone cheap parking) in large cities like Chicago and New York has always been a challenge. But thanks to a bunch of new parking apps, the process has gotten a whole lot easier and not to mention cheaper!
SpotHero allows you to search for parking spaces near you (or a specified location) and reserve the spot for as long as you would like right on the mobile app. It's a great idea because it make's it so much easier when you're heading downtown, to a concert, ball game, or any other event where you know that parking spots are going to be hard to find. But it's even better when you take into the consideration the prices. A lot of garages are a whooping 50% off on SpotHero which makes it a must have app for any city dweller.
Although other competitors are in more locations and offer basically the same service, SpotHero does everything a little bit better, so that's why it gets the nod as the top app for find free cheap parking on the go. A very close #2 was SpotHero's main competitor, ParkWhiz. It has been around for much longer and even raised more money than SpotHero recently. But since it's been around for so much longer and still hasn't become the market leader brings up some question marks.

- ValetAnywhere - NYC Only - In Beta
Best App to Get Food - GrubHub
The GrubHub app is the most complete and easiest to use app to get food delivered right to you in a few clicks. You can search for restaurants near you or you can choose what type of cuisine you are in the mood food and be presented with a list of options.
It's simple to order once you find a restaurant that looks good to you.
Use coupon code "E" to get 15% off any order over $10.
Best App to Get Around - Uber
This one pains me the most to post. I have a love-hate relationship with the Uber app. But thinking about it, I really couldn't give any of the other apps the nod in favor of Uber and it's not going anywhere after getting a quarter of a billion dollars from Google last year.
I'm a Lyft guy myself, but Uber is really cornering the market in most cities and continues to innovate. It was also just released that it would be venturing into a delivery service. Uber Corner Store will be able to deliver stuff from your favorite stores at a click of a button.
Best App to Get Paid - Square
The Square app might be best known as an app for small businesses and merchants, but it is also a great way to get paid back from your friends, accept payments at a yard or garage sale, send money to your children at college, pay for group gifts, and a lot more.
Simply download the app and input your banking information and you can start accepting credit card payments with a simple swipe of a credit card as soon as your free credit card adapter arrives in the mail.
Amazon recently announced it was also entering the mobile payments space with their Amazon Local Register app which is offering a limited 1.75% charge (compared to Square's 2.5%) to accept credit cards. It's certain to make an immediate splash with the name recognition and cheap transaction fees.
Best App to Find Your Way Around - Waze
You've probably used some of the features of Waze without actually realizing it. See, Google Maps uses the accidents reported on Waze and incorporates them into their Google Maps.
But Waze has a bunch of other helpful features that make it stand out from the rest.
You can see reported locations of police, chat with others, and share you locations with your friends to see who's on their way or not.
Another good advantage of using Waze is that they do a magnificent job updating the app to correct issues and problems (i.e. Pretty much the opposite of Apple Maps) so you can feel confident you are going the right way.
